How to do creative writing?

Assalam O Alaikum dear readers….!!!!

Today, I am going to tell you about an issue my students had. One of the worse issues they had was “How to write creatively”, how to write by yourself when there is hell lot of information given in the text books, can’t we just memorize it?

First of all, why do we need creative writing. It is a matter of fact that you cannot just rote-learn everything. So, in your academic life, you need to write stories, essays, thesis and so many other things all by yourself. Every student knows it is necessary. 

Creative writing is powerful, helps you personally. Boosts your imagination and helps you to be expressive.

But how to do it?

Let me tell you.

There are so many places where creative writing is needed, novels, books, newspapers, news channels, blogs, fictions in fact almost wherever writing is needed, you need to be creative.

For example, we are writing a story or an essay.

First, choose a topic.

A topic is as necessary as the thumbnails given at the YouTube videos. Most of the time, by watching the thumbnail, we decide whether this video is worth-watching or not.

If it is a story, the topic shall be real interesting, so that it may convince your reader to read the whole thing. If you like something, does not mean everyone will like it. So, understand your audience.

If it is an essay, simple yet concise topic would be better. Do not create suspense in an essay’s title.

Then, research, try to collect each and everything that is relevant to your topic. If it is a fiction, work hard and imagine.

This is an important part, you need to research, you need to imagine, you need to think, you need to do brainstorming. This stage is going to decide how well you can write creatively.

When you have completed this step, WRITE...!!!

I know, I know when you stare at the blank page, all that brainstorming just fades away. A blank page scares every new writer. Don’t let that blank page ruin your intentions.

What to do, make a plot of your writing project.

By making a plot I mean, make a draft. No matter how messy it seems, if you can understand it, this is what we need for now.

Now, start writing, if it is a story, do paragraphing in the way you like. If it is an essay, the best way is to include an introduction, main body and conclusion.

When you are writing an essay, in the introduction paragraph, try to engage your readers, this paragraph is like a display photo. It is going to show what else is coming next. If you are writing a specific type of an essay, follow the rules accordingly.

For example, you are writing an argumentative essay about let’s say, honor killing in Pakistan.

The right way to do is, to start an essay by highlighting the issue, do not give away your opinion in the very beginning of the essay.

The choice is yours, whether you want to start your essay with what is honor killing and how many women were killed in the name of honor, or to pick up one of these cases and start telling the story in your essay. Either way is fine.

Let’s get back to the point again.

While writing creatively, use your imagination and learn to play with the words.

Your pen shall never stop, if you have an endless imagination, sure you have it.

If you are writing a story, do not act like a reporter, be an observer.

For example, you need to tell

“it was windy”,

But you can also write, “it was so windy that umbrella was totally bent out of shape”.

Another example:

Instead of writing this:

“The stadium was full of people.”

Write this: 

The noise coming from the stadium was deafening as all the people were chanting the name of their favorite player”.

If you are writing an essay, write more professionally, if it is an essay about a personality, about an event in the past or about any issue in the present, always double check the facts and figures that you are going to provide in your essay. Do not write about what you think is correct, do not impose your decision upon your audience. Write open mindedly, without any sectarianism or racism or anything like that.

In the essay, you can always add more body paragraphs until your point is clear. Do not end your essay too quickly. 

As this is an important part, where you need to sum up each detail. Here you can write about the steps taken against any problem of the present, or the after effects of any historic event that you have described in your essay, or how lucky you were to have a specific person, if you are writing about any personality.

Ta da! And there you go, you have your first piece of creatively written article or a story or an essay maybe.
