Pair of words



We all are familiar with pair of words, right? Pair of words are also called Homonyms.

Homonyms are defined as those words that sound the same, spelt differently sometimes and have different meanings all the time.


Here are some of the homonyms.


Advice: counsel

He gave me a piece of advice.
Advise: to give counsel.

          The doctor advised him to take rest.



Affection: Love

          I feel great affection for my sister.

Affectation: Behavior that is not sincere.

          His affectation irritated me.



Admission: Entering or being allowed to enter.

          How much the university charge for the admission?

Admittance: the right to enter.

          I was not allowed admittance to the palace.



Accident: mis happening.

          We reached there without any accident.

Incident: an event, happening

          Two families were robbed in two different incidents.



Adopt: To taking someone else’s child.

          He is their adopted son.

Adept: skillful

          She is adept in painting.



Artist: A skilled person in fine arts.

          Picasso was a great artist.

Artiste: singer, dancer.

          A lot of artiste participated in the got talent show.



Aspire: desire eagerly.

          He is aspiring to get a promotion at his job.

 Expire: to die.

          The patient has already expired when brought to the hospital.



Aisle: Corridor.

          Would you allow me to walk you down the aisle? (marrying in the church)

Isle: Island

          He lives in the isles of Malaysia.



Ancient: belonging to the past.
         
          I feel pretty ancient when most of the 90s things have disappeared now.

Old: referring to age.
        
            How old is this building?



Blue: A color same as the day-time sky.

          I am wearing a blue dress.

Blew: expelling air through lips. (past form of blow).

          I blew out the candle.
