If your English-speaking friend asks you to lend him an ear. Don’t worry, he is not going to run away with your ear. It is a literal way of saying “listen to me”. So, you are alright I guess.

So, when your eyes are sore, you would not want to see anybody I guess. But someone who is very special? You may still agree to use your sore eyes to see him, right? So, a literal way to tell how happy you get by seeing someone.

Keep an eye peeled:

Being alert and observant. 

A security person needs to keep an eye peeled.
